To the European Council

andante is the European Alliance of Catholic Women’s Organisations uniting 1.3 million members in 13 countries across Europe. Our aims include offering the competence and the vision of women for building a living, just and people-friendly Europe. We also work for the just participation of women in society and for the Common Good of all people.
We understand  that there will soon be an appointment of a President of the European Council and that the Heads of the EU States and Governments are currently discussing this.
We think it is important to point out that there are very few women holding the most important posts in Europe, which we consider to be undemocratic.
One name has emerged as a possible candidate which we would fully support, namely Mary Robinson. She is a former President of Ireland, a former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and, most importantly, a fully committed European.
We urge you to consider Mary Robinson as a candidate for President of the European Council.
